18 months ago i got what i thought (possibly is) a trapped nerve in my neck causing left shoulder stiffness . i just dealt with it and carried on .Didnt go to the doctors during this time but i am therapist for depression something ive had for a few years , im getting forgetful (48) and really tired .

The shoulder and neck are effecting my sleep and have for 12 months , i started getting pain in my left hand (bad shoulder side) and recently same problems in my right hand but shoulder on the right is ok. about three months ago i started getting twitching around my stiff shoulder that comes and goes and now getting twitchs down the side of both wrists and in my legs on a night when im in bed . I can see the twitches that last from a few mins to secs but sometimes in can feel like im shuddering if im leaning on something ts weird .
i saw a dr about 4 weeks ago and have been for a mri 10 days ago the dr told me that it showed cervical stenosis the person who did he mri report recommended me to see a neuro surgeon with my other symptoms , my docotr showed me the report and asked what i wanted to do while trying to push me towards physio or injections and not the neurosurgeon . after speaking with my wife i have decided to see the neurosurgeon , my wife said she had seen changes in my but not said anything , ive had a mumblewhen i talk for a lot of years before the beck and shoulder but my wife and a friend recently had said they thought it was getting worse .im worried and i know anxiety can cause twitching and for my mind to over think which i hope it is ,but i seem to notice different things now every few days (overthinking) i am get not pain but dull ache down my left leg starting around my shin but in my thigh now and over the last few weeks the back of my left shoulder the muscle seems to have gone alot and my left hand as well but i dont feel overly week . sorry for going on my question is

have a lot of people diagnosed with ALS AND MND been diagnosed with cervical stenosis and later changed to ALS MND
What questions should i be asking the neuro surgeon or tests i should be asking for and should i be asking to see a neurologist specialising in ALS MND
To be honest i think ive got anxiety with the stenosis .

SORRY THIS WAS WROTE QUICK NOT CHECKED ,HOPE IT MAKES SENSE AND NOT JUST A WAFFLE

You should sit down with your PCP and discuss your concerns and directions that would be best for your situation.
Twitching, aches and pains, and mumbling are not a concern for ALS.

I would consult with both the physio/injection side of the house, and the neurosurgeon, and get a second opinion before undertaking any injections or spine surgery. There are many controversies about how best to treat the spine, and the wrong approach can have serious permanent consequences. Qualified neuromuscular physio or therapeutic massage are among other options. Some degrees of cervical stenosis are more severe than others, so no one here can make a blanket pronouncement about your next step.

There is no reason to worry about ALS from what you describe, but if your shoulder and neck are affecting your sleep, then likely you are not getting enough refreshing sleep and that can certainly affect speech, fatigue, and much more. It is common to start with physio, then move on to injections or surgery if needed.

Best,
Laurie
