Hi all. Firstly to say that I have read your stickies but am very concerned about what is happening to me.

About 6 months ago I started getting pain in my left calf. It felt like a dvt to be honest, but that was ruled out. Lately it has progressed to feeling tight. Then about 2 months ago I started to get slight stiffness in my left knee. This has gradually got worse and worse to the point I have pain in the back of the knee when I walk and I have v limited ability to bend knee. Then in the last week i am now experiencing rapidly increasing heaviness, discomfort and a feeling of weakness in my left thigh. The speed of which has shocked me. Walking is suddenly a real effort and uncomfortable and getting worse day by day. I have also started getting twitching on both legs.

I can still walk on my tip toes and heels, but with my left leg deteriorating so quickly I wonder for how long.

I would appreciate it if anyone can relate to these symptoms or has any advice. I am back in to see my gp on monday. Thanks for reading this and best wishes to all of you out there.

It does not sound like ALS. You have clearly seen a doctor at least once since dvt was ruled out. What other tests have you had? What does your clinical exam show ?

discomfort and feelings are not ALS symptoms. There are many things that can go wrong with the human body. Work with your doctor to find out what is wrong

Thanks Nikki. I am seeing my gp on Monday. Since I wrote I am now getting stiffness in my left wrist, hand and fingers. Pain in my ribs and back, pressure feeling on my diaphragm. Aching in my shoulders. It feels like a new symptom presents itself every day. Does this sound typical of als? I won't write again until I have some solid feedback from gp/ specialist. Thanks for reading this

No. See my comment above

Thanks Nikki. I saw the doctor yesterday. He wants me to have an MRI and said he wants to persue a vascular and neurology approach.

My symptoms are progressing at an alarming rate and I am seriously worried. My knee and thigh is now so stiff and heavy...painful to bend it and can't fully...my thigh feels like a piece of lead. Tremor in my left foot when I stand. Weakness in both hands and wrists. Tightness across my diaphragm and then today weakness in my jaw...I felt it difficult to chew when eating a simple sandwich and have a tightness around my neck and face/jaw.

I wonder if this is rapid onset als symptoms ....my MRI will be 6 weeks because we are in lockdown because of coronavirus....which is so far away and things seem to be progressing so fast. Your (and anyone else's) thoughts and perspective on this would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi all.

The pressure and stiffness and discomfort on my knee and lower thigh gets worse and worse each day. It feels like very heavy pressure just above my knee cap only when I stand or walk. I can still walk on toes and heels. Is ALS muscle failure in the leg similar in progression to what I'm experiencing? My foot also quivers when I'm standing up on

Also the weakness in my hands and fingers with a loss of dexterity progress and I have diaphragm pressure and a aching stiff jaw with slight numbness on my top lip.

These things seem to be happening fast. . I am obviously terribly worried to put it mildly....i am trying to get to see a neurologist asap but having difficulty as uk in total lockdown.

Any thoughts or opinions would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Best

Guy

Hi Guy,

I'm sorry you are in such a difficult situation. However, your symptoms are not ALS symptoms for the many reasons you have already heard. Therefore, there's not too much the folks here can do for you. This forum is not a general health forum, so one cannot guess what is going on with you. Docs are still doing telephone appointments, so your best bet is to do that. Focusing on ALS when you do not have it, is a waste of energy and serves only to get in the way of you finding out what is going on.

Best of luck to you and stay safe.
