Joel Osteen was questioned by police after 'bags and bags' of cash and
checks were found in a bathroom wall by a plumber working at
Lakewood Church

In 2014, $600,000 worth of donations were stolen from the church.
The amount was just a portion of donations made from one weekend
of services and it has never been found.

(“The amount was just a portion of donations made from one weekend
of services.”) Now... do they get to keep the $600K found?

*Donation funds are fully insured, so Lakewood Church did not lose
out on the money at the time.

Osteen, 58, the televangelist megachurch pastor, is estimated to be
worth $50 million himself.

The controversial celebrity pastor recently returned $4.4 million in
federal COVID relief loans his megachurch received from the
government because a whistle blower contacted the government.

His most recent address is listed as a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom
mansion in Houston's River Oaks neighborhood worth an estimated
$15 million.

I was raised in a very religious family, two family members were in
the clergy. I believe, I am a Christian. But… I doubt this is crap is
what Christ intended. And when it comes to the Bible it was compiled
600 years after his death to unify an empire. Dinosaur bones are
real, the Pyramids are real. Our earth was not created in 7 days.
What planet was God on that had a sunrise and sunset? When it
was said, "Let there be light" was it referring to the Big Bang Theory?

I was taught it was said to Apostle Peter... "Upon this rock I will
build this church". Something sure went off the rails.

Don’t mean to offend anyone… just my thoughts while this sub
forum has been kind of quiet.

You speak the truth, Al. It is obscene the money these televangelist’s bring in from people who probably can ill afford their donations, and certainly seems contradictory to the basic tenets of the religion. Though I am non-religious, the wealth accumulated at the expense of others is offensive on many levels.
