Hello,

I am a 24 year old man who has been dealing with twitching and tingling all of my life. I recently went to get an EMG done on my upper body, and my lower body will be done on the start of the new year.

My symptoms are tension headaches, tingling and twitching in my shoulder blades, side of head, calves twitching, and sometimes in my hands. My feet are also nonstop tingling as well. I have had blood tests done and they’ve come back normal.

I was just curious about the results of my EMG. I do work at a computer all day typing, so I knew I would have some type of carpel tunnel, however the second line about the acute and chronic denerivation/reinnervation got to me, as the neurologist did not mention this. All he mentioned was to wear a splint for my carpel tunnel for a month. I am trying not to look up what that means due to just fueling my health anxiety, but he also mentioned that I should schedule a brain MRI if I wanted to to rule out MS and “other things” as well.

Am I freaking out over nothing? I’m the type of person that overthinks and overworries (I get it from my mom) but I just want to see if it was something I should worry about.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate all of you very much.

Yep, it says, right there in black and white that you have carpal tunnel. The next paragraph states pretty clearly there's no evidence of anything else. Maybe speak with a physio- they will have recommendations for what next steps are aside from splinting- you can get a posture assessment, maybe a change in desk set up/keyboard positioning, and other recommendations for rehab.

Thank you for your quick response! I appreciate it very much. It’s pretty scary going through something like that, so I guess I needed reassurance? I’ll be honest, I’ve been lurking for a while before this, and looking at the acute/chronic terms, got me scared when receiving the typed results.

Thank you for your time. I hope to get these thoughts out of my head soon enough. I’m going to therapy for my health anxiety, so hopefully I can overcome this as well.

Hello,

I just wanted to post the results of my EMG for my upper limbs. I understand that my PCP and neurologist both confirmed to me that this is carpel tunnel. I just wanted to make sure that this reflects that? The abnormal abductor results concern me. I’ve been having a really rough night and lurking on the forums with the active and chronic denervation and the EMG results concern me a ton. I have been working on my posture and fixing my ergonomic work style but I just need some assurance.

Thank you for your help.

The APBs, which both show abnormalities, are muscles in the thumb. When they are both overstrained, this kind of EMG is the result. With an exercise regimen and avoiding repetitive motion injuries (keyboarding, lifting, some kind of sports activities like throwing a ball) in the future, you should be fine. You might need help with your form or advice on how not to overdo it.

Good morning,

Thank you for the quick response! That’s what I assumed it was and what everybody told me, just a constant reflection of overworking my wrists and hands (I do have an office job that makes me type 8 hours a day) and actually starting to lift weights last year as well. I’ve had family members that have had rare diseases, and it constantly fills my mind about all of the bad things that it could be, with the bad disease on this forum as well. I have updated my keyboard and mouse and working on fixing my posture and form, as well as working on my form with lifting weights. As like most people in this forum, I just always think of the worst even when it it still happening (I am in therapy for this and slowly improving as well). Thank you for the reply. I’m just glad it’s not the big bad and I will try and work on getting my mind right as well as exercises for my carpel tunnel as well, like you said what it is to believe.

Thank you!
