hello all----I have the bulbar variant of ALS. After I brush my teeth, my lower teeth rest on the outside of my upper teeth. This is because my neck muscles have given out and I can't hold my head up. After brushing my teeth, I have to sit down, which allows my head to lift my head. When I do that, my teeth fall back into their original normal position. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, any suggestions on how to treat this issue?

My mother has bulbar als and has had issues with jaw pain but she hasn’t mentioned her teeth not sitting right in her mouth (as of yet). I would check with your doctor on this.

I would try a cervical collar, tilting your head back, and/or sitting down while you brush, which could be easier with a single-use toothbrush or swab.

For both MF's mom and Pocket, you might ask your dentist if you can get a custom nightguard to help teeth/jaw stay in place. With the right mask, it should not interfere with BiPAP use.
