Is swallowing and breathing always affected?

Thanks for all the support already, you guys are great. My dad is so far doing ok breathing but problems with that is what I dread the most. Also, what agencies are there to help? He's in assisted living, but soon he'll have to be in a nursing home. My mom was in one for a year and a half before she died, and I'm sure they didn't have the kind of resources to deal with what we'll be facing.

Debbie,

ALS does eventually effect breathing and swallowing/speech, as the muscles weaken from lack of nerve signals.

Sorry about your Dad.

You really need to contact the ALS Association and the MDA. They can help with info and support.

Thanks Jimercat, I'll check them out today. Knowing there are people out there who can relate and actually care means everything.
