I appreciate the level heads on this forum and would love your opinion on the results of my EMG. I am a 47 female
I realized I was having trouble lifting my right arm in the end of September. I wasn’t in pain at all- I just couldn’t do it. I did go to the ER to make sure it wasn’t a stroke. I had been under a fair amount of stress at work at the time. I was cleared of a stroke. Had great bloodwork and ct scan.

My MRI did show-C3-C4: Mild diffuse disc bulge without significant canal stenosis or neuroforaminal narrowing. C4-C5: Mild diffuse disc bulge without significant canal stenosis or neuroforaminal narrowing. C5-C6: Moderate diffuse disc bulge effacing the spinal cord with mild canal stenosis. No significant neuroforaminal narrowing. C6-C7: Moderate diffuse disc bulge effacing the spinal cord with mild canal stenosis.

I was referred to neurology because I did not have pain and did not have numbness. He found I had an absent deep tendon reflex at the bicep. He ordered an EMG for my right arm.

I had the EMG this week and the DO performing the test felt I did have pain (despite me telling her I didn’t) and kept making me try to contort to find it- which we did not do. She also did not feel my weakness was as bad as previously reported- though it feels the same to me.

I did have an abnormal EMG (attached) that she diagnosed as radiculopathy of C5- which based on the MRI is possible. She also found carpal tunnel (of which I also have no pain)

My follow-up with the neurologist is later this month where I will discuss further but am interested if a pinched nerve with only muscle weakness is possible?

Yes, it is.
If the neurologist agrees with this diagnosis, I would ask about PT.
If any other intervention is recommended, I would get a second opinion at another center.

Thank you- I appreciate your response.
