On Monday I had the stitches taken out that were holding the little plastic disc to my stomach. This morning as I was stepping out of the shower the entire feeding tube came out. Called my surgeon and he said go to the ER. We went there and the doctor tried to insert a replacement, but the stomach muscles were already tightening so she had to call Intervention Radiology. After 5 local anesthesia shots into my belly, the doctor was able to insert a new tube. Unbeknownst to me, however, my husband took the original tube to a technician to see if the balloon on the original tube was defective. The technician inflated the balloon and it was perfect - no defects. My husband now believes that during the original surgery, they simply forgot to inflate the balloon. Does this make sense? Bill

If that is the case then it was a double stuff-up.

The person removing the sutures should have checked the balloon pressure too.

Hopefully all will be smooth now!

Sometimes those balloons will leak for no reason. We have had the tube slide out unexpectedly. You can use a Foley catheter of the same gauge to hold the opening in a pinch...
