Why does some IDIOT have to make a virus and send it out to the world to kill their hard drives? Is that their idea of fun? What kind of person gets off doing this? I wish I could get my hands around their throat right now.
I just spent 6 days formatting my hard drive and reloading everything that I use to have on it due to a virus. No telling what I have lost in the process.
My virus program that I paid good money for did not catch it, nor did my fire wall.
By the way I use Zone Alarm for both. Growl..........

Just gripping, to let off steam before I blow a gasket.
Maybe we can use a vent thread?

hi capt al

sorry to hear about your virus problem,i hope your computer is ok now.
i have protection but still dread something like this happening.
did you not have a disc with all your programs and stuff saved on to use with system restore?
if not save important stuff on a disc incase it ever happens again.
i though yesterday when you posted i had not seen you for a while.
hope you and your computer are ok.
take good care.

ps sorry al i realised reading back you probably had a saved disc, scrap that bit lol

ZoneAlarm for a firewall isn't bad but for virus protection as you've discovered it leaves quite a bit of room for improvement. From past experience I am also not a fan of McAfee or Norton. I use a product by AVG. They offer a free version for personal use or you can upgrade to include anti-spyware and firewall. It maintains a very small footprint, is updated often and in the past 4 years has never given me a problem.

i am not a fan of norton either, was told by a computer expert it causes havoc with your computer.
i have bullguard now, dont know if they have it over there but it is brilliant.
cheaper than norton and other top ones but works much better, had it nearly a year(due to be renewed in december)and had not 1 virus or any problems.
take good care.

If you're down with paying for AV, Nod32's the best (I've had people that write virii they don't send out just to fool around tell me this). Zone Alarm's a pretty good firewall, but their AV I can't say the same about. I prefer Comodo right now though. All the ZA Pro features for free, and typically uses less system resources.

Don't worry about what you've lost. If you've forgotten about it entirely and haven't come across a situation where you needed it yet, odds are you don't need it. I reformatted mid-September. I got a cheap 120GB External and kept my My Documents folder there, keeping the internal hard drive(s) reserved for programs and operating systems. I reinstalled one out of maybe 8 programs I had before.

Your growls have echoed into cyberspace,buddy... and we heard. How FRUSTRATING!

Hope your days get better and better~!~!

Only on a board like this could you report that event and know folks get completely what this means to you. Glad you are back in the game, AL.

Like most of you I had a back up plan. I had a restore program on DVDs. After it formatted my hard drive and began to reinstall my programs, I came to a disk in the group of 6, that said disk is corrupted, installation cannot be completed. Whoopee! Gee thanks back up program.
Sometimes you just have one of those bad days I guess. Mine has been a bad week.
Awe shucks.
Horse feathers. *^$*&%^#&^$*& and other bad words.

I spent the better part of my life in the computer industry and can definitely tell you there is no better anti-virus program than NOD32. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.
I recommend a VERY frequent backup plan and the easiest is an external USB Hard Drive.

Get a Apple!

;-)

I have had the same Apple lap top for over 5 years. I've never gotten a virus and neither has anyone else I know who owns an Apple computer. They may be pricier but they last a lot longer and the firewalls really really work!

Must get

We use Ad-aware, Spybot, and AVG.... all three free... no time limit ever... and they block every virus, pop ups, and other nuisances. We were bombarded with porn etc. a few months ago and it became so invasive that we couldn't even download a thing anymore or use our desktop icons at all. Our firewall and antivirus didn't block enough for us.We had to have the hardrive emptied also and these three GREAT helpers downloaded. It takes a short time to get them all in a running for you. They scan at regular times for you without you doing a thing! M

What makes you angry? Need to Vent?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. It sounds a lot nicer than my idea of a sledge hammer to the old computer.:D
