I pray it is

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the link...we want more like that...I also am hoping above hope that 2009 will be the year. The only thing that bothers me, is that everyone is finding little bits of the puzzle, but is there a central point to pool all this information. There is a world reknown celebrity in the UK who is about to launch a new charity just for mnd research...with his name he is sure to get a lot of support, and we read of all these universities all over the world making significant steps towards an answer...just how do we make sure it is all collated to become effective.
I find it incredible that I have been tellling my diagnosing neuro things that he does not know (although is is not an als specialist)
keep the links coming, hope is what is keeping me going.

Research

Thanx for sharing. This gives ys all more hope.

It's freaky to think that in the tens of thousands of years man has walked the earth, my dad happened to fall to this damn thing maybe 5 years before a cure is figured out.
It's like getting shot on the last day of World War 2.

I know just exactly how you feel. I am only 38 years young and have struggled with it for 5 years, sometimes I feel like giving up, but then I realize, that is the easy way out. Be strong and supportive of your dad, that is what he needs the most right now.

It's like getting shot on the last day of World War 2.

That is exactly what it is like! We used to have a PAL around here who would say, "ALS has to happen to somebody. Why not me?" I guess Andre's point was, if it happens to 1 or 2 out of 100,000, somebody has to get caught in that statistic.

I always liked his attitude. Don't know if I could live by it, though.

Thanks so much for the link.

Jennifer who is this world renowned celeb?

I dont think I should mention names until after the launch of the charity, since I was told by someone who is attending the launch, and they are also a member of this forum I dont know if it is my place to say...will inform the forum once the charity has launched...next week I think...

I have just returned from my lovely neuro at the mnd clinic. I was due to visit, but in particular he wanted to discuss trials.... He said the UK LITHIUM trial would be looking at patients in about March of this year, and he could not see a reason why I should not be included, but I have to be assessed anyway.
Then he said, no problem if I dont get on that one, he himself is in research and they are in the planning stage of yet another trial...I have no idea what it is yet, but they hope to run a different trial within the next 6 months. I also asked about the stem cell treatment research going on in Kings college hospital london..he was also enthusiastic about that and is sure breakthoughs will come
...and since he is italian, and they have a huge number of italian footballers getting mnd, about 10 times the normal population, they are doing even more research into head traumas related to als...I had a head trauma prior to being DX...He also knew about the celebrity who is starting a fund for research in the uk..
So you see, there is definately more going on out there than we know about. 2009 WILL be our year

Major Mayo discovery reported today

I read exciting news today that researchers at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville have made a major discovery that could "unlock a key biological doorway that could lead to better treatments - or even a cure - for Parkinson's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, and depression."

I read about it in the local Jacksonville newspaper but you can find it by going to www.jacksonville.com and looking over to the right about the lead-in about Mayo researchers, and clicking on it. I think this is such exciting news because if they find out what causes it, they can start working on curing it. Here's the link just in case it works.

simply amazing!

wow- what great articles! I'm excited about 2009!

Thanks so much for the link.

Jennifer who is this world renowned celeb?

The charity should have launched last week, although I did not see any press or TV about it. My mnd clinic neuro knew about it as well.
It is Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber...composer, musician and writer of many large stage musical productions.
