Hi,im new and have read the warning before posting. I don't want to be that guy but im scared and dont really know what to do. I have been getting alot of minuscule to major twitching constantly in the area of my right buttocks primarily near the "balls" or genitals. i have also noticed alot of muscle atrophy near that area which frightens me. The area seems to be missing alot of muscle or meat and there is even a dent like figure near the groin area. I have not experienced any weakness that i can seriously call it being clinically weak. I hvae also been experiencing twitches everywhere as well but i believe it to be more from anxiety than anywhere. I have a neuro appointment soon to hopefully take a emg. A part of me believes this to be another episode of hypochondria but another is constantly saying what if. It has not been so long since it started maybe a week or two but i cannot get it out of my mind. Any insight would be most helpful, thank you.

Hi, Ammogram.

I think you already know you don't have ALS, and you probably know all the reasons why you don't. But you can't stop worrying about it.

Your groin needs some attention, though. A regular GP would be a good place to start investigating that, because GPs, unlike other specialists, are trained and experienced to look from many different points of view and send you to the proper specialist if needed.

My advice to you is to stay away from ALS websites. Don't even look at ALS, because it will increase your worry. Instead, look into anxiety or hypochondria. It's important to cure anxiety, or it can ruin your life.

Thank you for your insight, Mike

I too believe im just going in circles in my mind of whether i have it or not. The muscle atrophy is i believe have to do with me sitting all those years to excessive amounts but i never really thoroughly checked the buttocks that much until recently. I too am hoping but the atrophy seems to be mostly in the places that are currently twitching and seems to be getting worse or it could be my imagination. so that has been worrying. Thank you again for your insight.

Mike was spot on, Ammogram.

Further, you wouldn't see atrophy in your crotch. You would have leg, arm or neck atrophy following long term weakness.

Leave this site, put it and ALS in the rear view.

Hi, and No its not on the groin its on the thigh and right glute(butt) muscle. There is a massive loss of muscle compared to the other leg, the missing mass is where the butt and thigh meet and its more to the left or near the groin. I still feel it getting weird vibrations all the time and i noticed its been getting worse.
Thank you for the insight

I make three senior members who know ALS very well who can happily tell you that you are not describing ALS, not even a little bit.

I hope you find the answers with your doctor, but you can stop chasing this monster :)

A good rule of thumb is three senior members means we have reached about all we can tell you.

Hi and thank you for the reply
I really wanna believe but it's just hard right now. I'm constantly twitching in that same spot and im noticing more and more wasting away of muscle in the area. I can barely keep calm or focus, even sleep with this on my mind. Im trying to believe its just in my head but all this constant new developments and symptoms i just cant.

ALS fasciculations are widespread, body wide.
Everyone twitches, not diagnostic of _anything_.

You've been told 'no' three times now. You've worn out your welcome.

No ALS: lucky you.

Go away.

AMMO, you wrote: "I can barely keep calm or focus, even sleep with this on my mind. Im trying to believe its just in my head but all this constant new developments and symptoms i just cant."

That's exactly half the reason you need to leave. Because you need to get your anxiety fixed, and we can't do a thing for that. So you need to spend the remaining hours of today fixing your anxiety.

The other half of the reason you need to leave is because we are busy helping people who are paralyzed and dying, and we don't have time for other people such as yourself. You're being quite rude heaping your demands for attention onto terminally ill patients.

I apologize if i was being rude or inconsiderate that was not my attention
Thank you all for the replies and sorry i wont be bothering you again

Okay im sorry but my problems have been getting much much worse.
I have a major atrophy(getting worse) in the right upper thigh and butt area where it continuously twitches. I have been getting a heavy feeling in most my right leg as well. I have been feeling small twitches or tremors consistently in the right hand fingertips as well. I do have a lot of twitches everywhere else but i ignore it. The atrophied spot feels almost like jello compared to the other spot.
I dont mean to offend anyone im just confused and scared. I just want to know if this is possibly a sign of als.

Hon you just have to go to a doctor - we cannot do anything else but refer you to someone who will examine you themselves.

Ammo,
This Forum cannot help you. A doctor can. Please see your doctor and get an examination. Anxiety can make your body do all kinds of things and can even distort your perception. Your doctor will help you.

A half dozen people with experience in ALS have given the poster their final advice, so it looks like this poster has received all the help we can give him. Thread closed.
