So about 8 months ago i started experiencing muscle weakness in my legs and some pain and fasciculations. I didn't think much of it and thought it was due to overtraining in the gym. A couple of months later after some rest the symptoms didn't subside and spread to my arms and then i started experiencing dysphagia. Naturally i was concerned and went to the neuro. He suspected ALS but wanted to do an EMG test to make sure. It turned out normal so he said ALS was ruled out, although he didn't know what's wrong with me and told me to come back in 2 months. 2 months later my symptoms were much worse as i started experiencing atrophy in my calves and muscle cramps and soreness everywhere along with the initial symptoms. Did an EMG again, normal! I also had an MRI (normal) and blood test (also normal), but my neuro agrees that he notices weakness and significant atrophy in my 4 limbs, as well as hyperreflexia. Last week i did an EMG again and guess what? normal! My neuro told me that it was probably some form of myopathy and sent me to physiotheraphy and just "wait and see how it develops".
The symptoms that i'm experiencing are:
- footdrop on both feet (confirmed by neuro)
- weakness on 4 limbs (confirmed by neuro)
- random fasciculations
- dysphagia
- very noticeable atrophy in my calves, quads, biceps, and forearms (confirmed by neuro)
- hyperreflexia (confirmed by neuro)
- muscle pain in various areas
So does any of you experience a similar thing, and is it possible to have 3 CLEAN EMGS while having these symptoms if you have ALS? It is very strange because as far as i know EMG was supposed to detect very early if there's something wrong with you..
