Just a message to start a hurricane thread to make sure PALS/CALS are safe. For those of you who don't know, we also have an emergency FB Group if this site goes down. This was a very helpful thread when Florida got hit two years in a row.

I live on the beach, ground floor. The good thing is that our building is concrete with steel beams and we got Category 5 triple pane windows in our unit last year.

Right now it looks like the East coast of Florida will take a direct hit, very close to where I live. I'm staying. Our building has a generator so all our common areas will have electricity, three bathrooms, and a full kitchen.

We'll probably drive the car to the second level (each level has its own parking) just to make sure it isn't flooded. I know people on every floor so I'm not worried being on the ground floor.

I did order a battery operated radio with an extra battery pack and a solar powered phone charger. We have plenty of water and things to eat.

If you live on the coast, even up through NC, best to be prepared.

Kim and Kevin I think we spoke too soon last week about an easy hurricane season. Like you Kim I live on the east coastline of Florida. We'll get through it we always do though the last time we had no electric for 12 days. Thank God for generators. Stay safe.

So, here we go again. After a lifetime living in Florida, these last few years have been brutal. Right now, Tallahassee looks to be in for maybe a day of tropical storm stuff, but you just never know. You and Kim please take very precaution and hope for a sharp right turn. Kevin

Each day it seems like it's changing. Of course, we all want it to go out to sea or, at least, not take a direct hit.

I'm so glad it didn't hit PR head on this year. That was an answered prayer. Some areas still have no power there and there is massive destruction that will take years to rebuild.

Today, it looks like it will plow through the Bahamas. They did something very smart that the US should have done years and years ago and that is putting all their electrical underground. We did in DB Shores but as soon as you cross the bridge, there are electrical wires all over the place, many running through the tops of trees just waiting for another storm.

Florida is very backward in its infrastructure. When Disney moved here and we became a world destination for tourism, we had the opportunity to build high speed rails and really increase the expansion of highways. Unfortunately, we didn't move on it quickly enough and we didn't invest in the very thing that brings in money and tourism.

During the 40+ years I've been here I've seen a massive growth in population and a total lack of prioritizing infrastructure and education.

We're on the treasure coast so we're waiting for the storm to make its turn. Glad I was still able to help my husband prepare but sad to think that next year I probably won't be able to.

Kate, I've been in Florida for 30 years definitely seen my share of hurricanes. In 2004 we took a direct hit when we had Jean and Francis. We'll get through it we always do. ;)

A friend from my condo and I decided to take a "vacation" to Orlando. We're in a nice two-bedroom with a full kitchen next to Universal. My housemate stayed home with Ace and my friend's husband stayed home. Hoping and praying they are safe. We had very little traffic coming over. It was weird. We're high and dry playing cards, games, and watching TV. We're here until Friday.....hopefully our condos will still be there.

Kim, looks like we dodged a bullet. I'm so glad this storm is making its turn and isn't going to make landfall. I spent all day cooking meals in case power was to go out I would be able to heat them in the microwave once the generator was running.

Enjoy your time in Orlando. Hopefully this will be our only storm off the season we'll have to deal with.

My heart and prayers go out to the people of the Bahamas a d all they had to endure.

I am glad you both are going to be relatively unscathed. I was concerned earlier today when I heard there were some mandatory evacuations in Fla.

So glad this storm spared us my heart goes out to the Bahamas. My husband and I participate in TNR (trap, neuter, release ) this is James are latest neuter. So happy he came to feed this morning, we were able to crate him and bring him indoors so he was out of the elements we are experiencing. Not looking forward to the 2 disturbances coming off Africa but this is the peak of our season.

The bridges in Daytona area are now closed. They expect storm surges but still have no idea how big. It should pass by Daytona tomorrow and maybe even into Thursday morning. Today was sunny where I am so I sat out by the pool, then enjoyed the sunset from the balcony. I guess this will have to count for my vacation. I'm hoping we can drive back on Friday......before rush hour but it will depend on the bridges being open and if my condo has power.
