It would be great to know how old everyone is in here. I have a brother who is 28 yrs old and I am 30yrs old. My younger brother has been diagnosed with Bulbar ALS. I fear that I may have the same as well.

God bless...

Rosales, my son was 37 yrs old when he was diagnosed, and passed when he was 38, 15 days shy of his 39th b'day, may he rest in peace! I miss him so!

I am 38, my big brother with ALS is 50.

Age, Family and Symptoms

My brother Timothy is 45. I am 43. He had symptoms for 7 years before ALS was suspected 3 years ago. DX 2 years ago=10 years. No Familial History. I started having the same symptoms (he did before Dx) in March 06. the Neuro. said Peripheral Neuropathy and BFS. I was sent to another Specialist for a Second Opinion, I went last friday. I go Thursday for another EMG and NCV. I haven't had one since Aug. 06. This Doc. is leaning toward the same thing PN and BFS. I hope it is what they are saying and is coincidental. I woke up last night with severe/ cramps in my leg muscles and have constant twitching. I do have the PN symptoms I am going to give this Doc. another ear full when I see him thursday.

Also, I E-Mailed a Doctor at the University of Pittsburgh that does ALS Research. (Timothy is going to be a Tissue Bank Donor-at the end). I asked how likely it would be for a sibling to get ALS. He said with no Familial history. It would be very unlikely but, not impossible.

I just thought I would share that!

Hi Lorie,

I hope PN carries the day. If your brother does not have familial ALS, then the chances of you contracting it are the same as for the population at large, roughly 1 in 500. I once heard of a husband and wife both getting ALS within a year of each other.

Thank you John

Thank you John for being supportive. I will post tomorrow on how my EMG and NCV go.
Although I feel they pain and what my body is doing. I still get around good. Thank God!
I just keep on going and don't dwell on it. I will say this: When I see Timothy's Muscles Jumping up and down. They are the same as mine. It is kind of alarming. But like I say, I will not Dwell on it. It could make problems worse and Timothy and my Family need me. And the work I do for ALS.

Still Going,
Lorie:-D
