In about a year and a half the following have occured me (age 24):

fasciculations in both calves, above both knees, in both feet, and in one elbow. rarely but sometimes in butt, back, stomach, on lip (maybe only one bout a week or so with those...the only reason I notice 'em is because they're so infrequent...). My knees and elbow get 'em more when I do too much movement. Calves are the most, feet second...

noticed weakness in one hand (stiff, slower movement...), now both (mind you other hand is way, way stronger...hoping it stays that way for a while). one leg.
noticed loss of muscle in one arm, one leg.
now weakness is getting worse. grip is horrible, almost impossible at times. leg feels rubbery (hard to explain), balance gone to poop (well compared to how it used to be).
the right side of my nick sticks way out compared to left when I clench jaw... the boney part sticks way out. muscles in neck feel lumpy, stiff (?) when I extend neck. Swallowing is more difficult (not that difficult where I can't get down liquids...but a noticeable difference, trust me). Lots more gagging, sometimes even choking. Salivating in sleep like a Mother...
my right buttocks is smaller than left, big dent in it, like a quarter of it is cut off or something...

some of these problems I noticed a while back never connected. not the type of guy to really do that. but in light of things, wow. a year and a half at the onset of some weakness and fascic's and here I am?
is this possible in a little over 18 monts?

QF,

Okay, so let me see if I've got this right...
You've been developing these symptoms over 18 months and don't think enough about them to see a doctor? What kind of answers are you expecting to find here?

Anything is possible in 18 months. People develop symptoms of diseases and drop dead in far less time than 18 months. It happens in cancer, heart disease, MND and a whole lot of other stuff.

If you are truly concerned about your well being, see your GP. If you suspect you are ill, that would be a good first move.

Oh I'm going to, trust me.
I just wanted to know if this was a typical progression with MND, or if this sounds rather too progressive for MND.
If it is MND, I'm just scared that my demise will be swift, is all. I read of people having hand onset and that lasts for a year or two or three. I have problems with my hand, leg, etc. And I only started experiencing this stuff in the time frame stated.
I have gone to my GP, but the last time I saw him was like 8 months ago - Hoping things wouldn't progress since, but they have, oh how they have.

Well, it's GP, then Neuro, then answers, I guess. I only wish for a slow progression, is all! (don't we all, right?)

and by "slow progression" I mean if there's anything wrong me with (be it ALS, a virus, cancer... whatever) - b/c clearly I have something bad goin' on. :?:

QF,

I'm with Zaphoon, before you can talk about progression of anything you need to get to your doctor (and from their likely to a neuro or other specialist), and find out exactly what it is. There are a number fo different things that could cause your symptoms, and each of them have their own "typical progression" (If there is such a beast). The progression may very well be a petering out of your symptoms and you feeling better, or a halt in the advance of what you're feeling.

The mind and body are an interesting piece of work.

Best of luck,

Robert
