Hello
Grateful for this forum
I must admit I am a little bit in shock and would love to hear your opinion
I am 40 yr old female
About 4 months ago I started having severe muscle fluctuations in my left arm, after about a year with on and off left shoulder pain, sometimes the shoulder not feeling like it’s in socket. Physiotherapist helped with that. After muscle fluctuations started I saw both a physiotherapist and chiropractor for a continuous time, non of them even considered ALS, thought it was weakness due to hyper mobility and poor posture but the fluctuations did not improve at all
My GP was not concerned either, ran a lot of blood tests, all fine part to low vitamin D. Last month have been having muscle fluctuations in my left foot, specifically my flexor halucis ( inner foot muscle) but no weakness or failing or falling.
Went to see a neurologist bcs my anxiety was very bad. I was sure I will leave there with him saying I didn’t have ALS but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. All my physical exam was fine- he did notice the fluctuations in my arm (which are 24/7) and at the end of the test he also noticed a problem with my left foot. I was too shocked and think I kind of blocked it out but I believe he said increase of muscle tone, I am not sure but the test itself was me lying down and him pushing my feel towards my body, where my right foot was stronger and less wobbly then my left foot.
At the end of the consultation I asked if this could be ALS , expecting to hear a NO, but he just answered “this is not the first thing I would think off, most ALS patients don’t look like you, let’s take it step by step, have an MRI and an EMG first”. He would not say this was NOT ALS
I feel that I am in total shock .
I feel most people get a defiant NO in my situation with no failing or other visible symptoms.
I don’t know really what I am looking for but thank you for reading

Different doctors say things differently. I think it isn’t that you are different from those who get more reassuring it is the doctor and their approach. This doctor is apparently ultra cautious

Thank you
I feel they are like that in the UK sometimes
From your experience does it sound concerning?

Well your description is pretty vague. Muscle fluctuations? Do you mean twitches? And I am unclear what the foot issue was on exam but if you have no weakness or falls I wouldn’t be thinking ALS
