Hi There,

I’m a 41 year old female who admittedly does have some healthy anxiety but this time there are real symptoms that convince me of ALS. Last week after a fall where I bruised my tailbone, I started getting constant fasics in both of my calves and my feet will spasm. Occasionally I’ll get twitches on other parts of my body as well.

Both of my thighs feel tight (I’m not sure if this counts as weakness) when I’m walking for a long time and also twitch as well. Is it normal for ALS symptoms to start in both legs at the same time? I’m truly panicking.

No, it's not. And when it does, they lose mass rapidly (flail leg variant).

You've presented no reason to think about ALS. You may have irritated some nerves in or while compensating for your fall. You may also have unappreciated internal bruising.

I'd keep up the walking and maybe try some warm packs (not hot) on the calves afterwards. You can hold them in place with an elastic band. Or lie your legs on top. Keeping up nutrition (lots of bright produce) and hydration helps healing as well.

And of course donate any shoes or insoles that are past their prime!

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention that sometimes a whole limb will “jump” - the twitches are in my calf muscles but if I’m laying in bed sometimes my ankle will do like a jump twitch or both of my legs will….

That would fit.

If it persists/worsens, you could ask to be screened for Restless Legs Syndrome but an injury is a different thing.

That would fit with what?? Having ALS???

Absolutely not. I think Laurie meant fit with what she said in her previous post

Yes, Nikki is correct! Again, there is no reason to think of ALS.
