Where can I purchase helpful tools for my MIL? There are grippy things that can go on cutlery I assume. Something to help her grab towels on an upper shelf perhaps.

If you go to sammonspreston dot com you will see tons of things that will help now & in the future. With a little ingenuity, some things can be crafted at home. I'm sorry about your MIL's DX, but sounds like she has a very caring DIL!
