My EMG was abnormal I am freaking out my doctor said a pinched nerve possible but I still have no explanation for muscle spasms?

I had this emg done on my legs, if there was muscle issues would it have showed on the results? I don’t know what neurogenic recruitment patterns means.

Hi, JAX. This EMG report suggests spine (disk) damage that is causing your other problems. Physical therapy is the usual first line therapy. An EMG can find evidence of ALS if there is any. It looks like there wasn't -- a very good thing.

Best,
Laurie

Even though I have spasms all over my body? My cerbical mri showed 2 bulging discs still waiting on lumbar mri. I just don’t know what neurogenic recruitment pattern in muscles meant. I don’t see my neuro for another 3 weeks. My blood work was normal. She knows my concerns with ALS but only mentioned a pinched nerve. The main doctor signed off on the emg who is a neuromuscular specialist. If it was something more he would’ve noted that?

Spasms all over your body are not correlated with ALS but could perhaps be more stress related. In any case, your EMG says what your diagnosis is and if there was any other issue, most certainly the neuromuscular specialist would have noted it. As Laurie mentioned, your first stop after being diagnosed with a pinched nerve would be PT. You are on the wrong site for that as this is a site just for those with ALS and their caregivers. That is a great thing for you to have such a treatable issue. You should feel incredibly blessed for this.

Good luck to you, stay safe, and take good care.

Thank you so much for your reply! Stay safe.
