This is going to sound crazy but here goes.
My friend who drives me back and forth to Mayo Clinic has been away overseas for three weeks. I got a text from her a couple of days ago and she said she had fainted and broke her ankle in three places. She was in Berlin at the time and just got out of the hospital this morning (apparently this happened last Thursday.) She is with her husband who doesn't drive (long story.)
After some back and forth texting we decided that I would drive the van to the Orlando Airport and take the motorized wheelchair in to let her get back to the van with it. Someone else is coming with me because Orlando Airport is huge and I don't think I can walk as far as I might need to once she gets in the chair. The plan is to take a transport wheelchair and have another friend come with me and wheel the transport chair inside the airport so I can ride back in the transport chair while my friend uses the motorized chair. She says she needs to keep her leg elevated but already has a walking cast on. She has done so much for me that I want to give back.
So two of us, the electric wheelchair, the transport chair take the van to Orlando and she gets the chair with leg elevation for the ride home (her place is a little over an hour East of Orlando but it's during rush hour so who knows.)
For those of you who have traveled (Delta) or are familiar with the Orlando International Airport, do you have any suggestions? I thought about calling Delta and asking them what is the easiest way to do this?
The scary part that nobody seems to address is that she fainted and fell, then fainted again after physical therapy in the hospital. They are giving her a blood thinner for the flight back. I hope they did a cardiac workup before they released her.
