I have posted here before but I can't find this bit of information after looking. I keep hearing that ALS is relentless and doesn't stop. But does twitching (fasciculations) ever stop? I wanted to ask people that actually have this illness. It might settle a lot of peoples fears. My muscle twitching will stop if I simply move or adjust my arm in my bicep. Samething for legs and shoulders if I move the muscle group twitching all of a sudden stops and most of the time won't start again for awhile. Which I believe my fasciculations to be benign from what people have told me before. If you have ALS will simply adjusting the arm "for example" make the bicep muscle's noticeable fasciculations stop?

I can't stop my twitching - no matter what I do. I don't notice them as much when I'm busy doing something, but they're there.

They have stopped only in the places where paralyses has set in. As a senior member here reminded me long ago - " as a PALS, twitches are your friends".

I'm thinking your twitches are benign since you can seemingly control them.

Did you get colonoscopy results yet?

It's scheduled for early December. I was refered to a specialist that is specifically for colon cancer. At this point I am really hoping it isn't but here are my symptoms DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH Black tar stools, blood in stools, 5-6 liquid bowel movements a day, gut wrenching agonizing pain the abdominal throughout the day and worse during bowel movements...

CAN READ NOW:Ottawa I think I read a sticky you posted about tumors causing muscle spasms/twitching if I am wrong correct me lol. But if I had a tumor or a large section of my colon has cancer can that cause neurological like symptoms? My grandmother 2 years ago had to have 12 feet of colon removed, and my uncle had to have about the same amount removed from colon cancer. I have a long history of family members dying of stomach, throat, and colon cancer. I have had one day of liver cancer.

The presence of cancer in your body can cause paraneoplastic syndromes which include a large array of neurological symptoms.

I never posted anything about cancer or tumours.

hope they figure out what's with your colon and fix it quickly.

Whatever Alyoop said... Ditto! Hello Aly - nice to see ya here.

Getting my hair done with an iPad..... Thought I might drop by and act intelligent :)

It was Rose on a sticky that said that sorry Ottawa.

Gin helps me. I'll keep the twitches when looking at the alternative.

I am now almost 100% this is somehow stress related. Our car broke down right after my wife gave birth to our 3rd child. Spent 3 hours working on it and turns out it was the starter. Came back inside to visit with her and the baby and my right arm started twitching. 1st time in the wrist tho very strong twitching that I could feel all the way down to my elbow that lasted for an hour. I was even able to take a video of it this time. Then when I stood up my back spasmed and my right leg went out from underneath me due to a sharp pain in my hip that lasted about 10 seconds. After sitting down and relaxing for a bit with the baby all twitching and other symptoms stopped.

I don't know if this is a sign you don't have als but I pulled my right bicep pretty bad to the point I couldn't move my arm and twitching hurt so bad in it I almost buckled over during twitching. But after 3 days my right arm completely healed and I have full use of it.

I am so thankful there are people out there like you guys that help put these fears to rest.

Congrats on the new baby! I am very happy for you. Enjoy it all, good luck.
