Thanks for the welcome.
I have tried to sign up many times before and it never seemed to work. I am able to post now, thanks to the help from David (Site Admin.)

I am wondering if other people have had trouble signing up that is why this board seems slow. Many reads, few posts?

A bit about me.....
Husband and I are caregivers for his brother, DX Oct. 2003. Things have been progressing rapidly, and we seem to have a hard time keeping up. Just when we have something in place, it is almost redundant. Sigh....

He moved in with us in June. When that was planned in early May, it didn't seem necessary. By the time he got here, it was very necessary.

The three of us are now struggling with paperwork, accessing services, dealing with insurance companies, etc. Lots of work, and little return.

I have been reading several of the threads here on this forum, and have learned some valuable things.

Hi Kay:
Some of us are going through this mess and dealing with insurance companies, CPP, drug reactions and a whole host of other things... some of us are already past that. All of us are willing to help any way we can... in our own twisted way. Fisher is pretty good at this.... but we have to edit the comments and keep things clean as, I believe his daughter is still helping out with the typing (that's if you can get him off the deck when its sunny and away from his beer cooler long enough).
Anyway... welcome!

The paperwork is alot of work, but is sometimes a distraction from the other things that need to be taken care of. The CPP thing mystifies me. He has not applied for that as of yet, but I understand he needs to since he will be on LTD soon.

Anyone else have a feeding tube? He had his inserted last week, and this morning we had our first problem. I couldn't do the flush without alot of force. A nurse came to check it out, and she got it working. They advised to run Coke through it now and then to release any debris. He would prefer CC & Coke. :lol:

Things are moving so fast, I can hardly keep up.

Hi Back:
We never had a plugging problem with the g-tube but understand that it can happen quite easily and can be cleared with coke. We flushed before and after each feeding (the line and container) and it seemed to keep things clear.

The CPP disability stuff impacts the amount his LTD will pay out (lord knows you shouldn't be able to get more money as a disabled person than as a healthy ione!) and I think the insurance company insists on it. I found that my MD. helped out a lot with that and with getting OT's and other specialists on board.

Hi Kay

I helped care for my mother who passed in January. We had a motto that we would take one day at a time, it helped for her and us not to feel to overwhelmed about what might happen tomorrow. She died 2 years after diagnosis with limb onset. She never wanted a feeding tube so I can't help you with that, but she was totally dependent with no use of any of her limbs for her last 4 months. Her doctor was a big help with much of the paper work, and we had an O.T. come in to help with massage for circulation.
