Hello. I have 30 years old and have a history of health anxiety. During the end of my pregnancy, for some reason i googled als & 2 days later i had muscle spasms ALL over my body, feet, legs, butt, back, arms, deltoids, shoulders eyes lips and tongue. This has been going on for 4 months & since I went to 2 neurologists & they both said bfs. I had ine emg just of my legs no fas or fibs found. I also went to a neuromuscular dr who didnt think an emg was necessary however NOW im experiencing trouble initiating a swallow a few times a day. I have no trouble drinking but sometimes when i eat or just try to swallow its like I cant. Im a wreck.

Hi there-

Please read here: Read Before Posting.

You've been cleared by 3 separate neuros, one of whom is a specialist in neuromuscular disorders. You had a clean emg in the affected limbs. You had such a great clinical exam by the 3rd person you saw, a neuromuscular specialist (a person who had years of extra training to detect exactly what you're worried about), that they declined to conduct a second EMG because it simply wasn't necessary.

You have admitted health anxiety. What are you doing to address this?

If you have new symptoms, by all means, go back to your gp. However, you must address your health anxiety at the same time, as it may be causing or amplifying symptoms and making it difficult for doctors to untangle what is anxiety and what may be caused by some other, non ALS related issue.

Take care

Pregnancy can deplete iron and B vitamins, with possible implications for electrolytes as well. I would ask your PCP about beginning or adjusting appropriate supplementation if other systemic conditions have been ruled out. Not sure if you're still pregnant, but as you know, sleep with a young child is also at a premium but worth considering closely, even if you have to grab naps occasionally or something like that.
