GoFundMe for stem cell treatment!?

There's a guy over in the PALS only fb group who has cranked up a funding site to pull in $15k for him to get a stem cell treatment. He says he was diagnosed two months ago.

He initially said he'd hooked up with a California outfit, Stem Cell of America, but later said he was trying to get into Mass General.

Sadly, my first thoughts were:
- is he playing people, or
- is he being played?

His account is just shy of $6k!

It is pathetic either way. The company in California is run by /owned by? A doctor ( psychiatrist I think) who had his license revoked for unethical practices related to stem cells. All I saw related to MA was he was looking into a hospital there. MGH has been running stem cell trials. He might be trying to get into Brainstorm if it is still open but of course he would not have to pay other than travel related expenses ( and he lives in NE)
