Please help me understand why a person who has been diagnosed with als needs a follow up emg a year later?
Obviously the dr wants to check for progression ---are there any other reasons???

Is the diagnosis solid? Same doctor? Is there a question of qualifying for a trial and meeting criteria? Did you ask why? It isn’t routinely done

Agreed, you guys have the right to know and to say no if the justification doesn't seem sufficient.

My husband actually sees two neurologists-- one locally and one at an als center....the local neurologist suggested it so we are going to discuss with the als center dr at his next appointment. We have questioned the dx. with both drs and they both state the emg was definitive.

Definitely ask why at the clinic. What does he have to gain by this ?

I was asked to do another at Mayo as part of their teaching. I was the first "real patient" the new doctor tested.
