flu vaccine and als

Thank You! Just alittle sidenote. I am just now getting over some nasty cold virus. my lungs are so congested. I cannot imagine if I was respitory compromised, my 02 sats would have been in the 80's this is serious business. This came before I had the chance to get the flu shot. I work in the emergency room and I have been sick for about 7 days now. My suggestion, if you have not gotten a flu shot, go get it. and ....wash your hands alot. Take care everybody!

My husband died of als last yr. His symptoms started the day he got the flu shot. I called the clinic after he was diagnosed (6 months after getting flu shot) and asked what flu shot they gave him. I found out he was given the Flu zone Vaccine, manufactured by Sanofi (sp) His vaccine indeed had Thermisol in it... which is mercury. It's not the dead virus you need to worry about... it's the mercury. If you goggle mercury you will see that it is very toxic to the nervous system... And for all of you who talk about getting flu shots and never getting the flu? I've never had a flu shot ever and I haven't had the flu since high school (about 35 yrs ago). I'm not saying that the flu shots cause als but don't discount it so quickly, you never know.

There is more mercury in a can of tuna than in the flu shot according to Health and Welfare Canada. There might be quite a few different reasons for ALS. I never started the thu shot until after diagnosis so could we say there is a 50=50 chance that it causes ALS in our small random study?

Al, I think it may be a bit more complicated (actually, I am sure it is) than the tuna can comparison... I was feeling pretty ill for very long time after the first flu shot in my life (I think in 203 or 2004), and that's when my neuro symptoms started in earnest. My second flu shot was in November 2006, and I had a bout of neuro symptoms after that, resulting in my self-diagnosed in December.

There is really very little hard knowledge there, either way, that's why I don't like these simplifications. After all, a can of tune is not normally injected in your blood stream...

Well I know it's more complicated but we, meaning you and I don't know absorbtion rates through intestinal walls as opposed to injection. Possibly you know the dose in a shot but my point is that there is more mercury in the tuna. Further to my point, we have a new member in her first post here warning people about flu shots. That's why I commented in the first place.

Yes, I think it is important to emphasize that everybody should follow specialist's advise on whether to have a vaccination or not. This site is just a collection of personal experiences that should not be generalized.

flu shot

Last week at my ALS clinic, I got my first flu shot ever. I have had no reaction of any sort to the shot. And for the record, my ALS symptoms started in Jan 06. So no connection between ALS and the flu vacination for me.

I've had the flu shot for the past three years with no side effects, and, best of all, no flu.
