Hello,

Thank you for this forum and the sticky you made.

I’ve been experiencing some arm wasting and tremors. My PCP is concerned, we are working to see a neuro-muscular specialist with an appt. in 3 months. Is there someone who can help me understand early symptoms for flail arm? Are the symptoms just in the arms? Also, is limb jerking anything to do with ALS?

Thanks, Vince

Flail arm comes after an inability to do something, as does muscle wasting. So, what is it you cannot do? I, myself, have never heard of limb jerking with ALS.

By tremors, do you mean twitching? I haven’t heard of tremors with ALS. Twitching is common, nonspecific, and meaningless in the absence of muscle function failure which you have not described.

Flail arm just refers to loss of function with weakness in the upper arm(s). There are many more likely causes of upper arm weakness than ALS. Please let us know what your doctor says.

By tremors I mean an internal vibration coming from my upper/arm shoulder area. Same place as wasting. It is constant, rhythmic and noticeable when my shoulder presses against something, like bed. Also random twitching.

I will let you know what specialist says, but that will not be until November.

Thank you much.
