We've recently added a page to allow online donations...

The donations are 100% to fund the purchase of needed computer equipment for our moderators.

As most of you know, this site is operated and administrated 100% free of charge by kind, dedicated, and compassionate volunteers.

Some of our volunteers have mounting equipment costs, and if possible, we would like to help raise funds to offset these expenses of moderating the forum.

If any member is interested in donating equipment, or making a financial contribution, please do so, your generosity is appreciated.

This site will always be free, and there is absolutely no obligation to give :)

We receive daily positive reviews from members... many members are thankful this site exists, and are extremely thankful the moderators are so very dedicated to the tasks at hand...

If any of you would like to give back, now is your opportunity :)

Only give if you can afford to... there are many ways to help, the most important way to give is to share information and visit often, what more could we ask for.

Help each other first and foremost.

Help the website by making a donation if you can.

David,

Making a donation is a fine idea. However, once you have donated is there a way that the site can recognize this and stop bombarding you with further requests?

Thanks, John

UPDATE: The donation prompt has been removed entirely, thanks for the input John

Anyone interest in giving can click the "Donate to ALSForums" link located at the top left corner of the forum screens.

I believe that should be top right.

Doh, yes, top right :)

What progress with the fund raising? Has the response been sufficient to meet the current needs?

Liz,

We raised approximately $300 in the first 24 hours; mostly due to the annoying pop up window.

However, we removed the popup because it was deemed too much of a nuisance.

We do hope to continue to raise money, but need to find a less intrusive method of doing so.

We are still welcoming donations, but because it's simply a small link at the top of the page, donations have not continued to occur.

We will try to find a more productive way of raising money in the near future.

If you have any suggestions, or creative thoughts, please let us know!

Cheers,

David

Actually Dave, that's exactly why I asked. Not wanting the pop-up back but thought putting the thread up with the new posts would make it more visible again for short awhile. :)

Maybe it could be set up that donations are targeted to a specific equipment purchase (e.g. - and I am totally making this up - buying a speech recognition software program for Al). That way folks would know how how their donation would be spent so might more clearly see the purpose as it relates to their use of this forum.

Just an idea,

Liz
