End of life nurse… there may be 'better' ways to go, says an end of
life hospice care expert.

Julie McFadden, a hospice nurse in California, revealed on a podcast...
"To me, there are a couple diseases that are the worst."

The first cause she mentioned was ALS (amyotrophic lateral schlerosis),
also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

She has said that ALS is a rare disease being that about 5,000 people
a year are diagnosed with ALS. The CDC also estimates that there are
roughly 5,000 new cases a year.

“The condition is 100 percent fatal, but it can take anywhere from a
few years to decades to cause death - and this is usually excruciatingly
cruel.”

The nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movements gradually
deteriorate and, over time, muscles stop functioning, eventually
including those responsible for breathing.

The reason that many deaths among PALS are self-directed (I'm not talking just about MAID and legal transactions, but situations where PALS less formally choose the day/place of their death) is exactly that -- a U turn away from unnecessary suffering, toward a destination that the road is heading no matter what.

Sorry, I'm at a loss here... which of my paragraphs above are you referring to?

"The reason that many deaths among PALS are self-directed." ??

"... but situations where PALS less formally choose the day/place of their death)
is exactly that -- a U turn away from unnecessary suffering, toward a destination
that the road is heading no matter what." ??

Maybe my comprehension skill has diminished with my progression... your
reply has me baffled of what point you were making.

(Maybe you were coming from Julie McFadden’s
pod cast… I’ve been following her for a while.)

Lauri, you have been very helpful to this Forum.

It’s apparent you have excellent computer skills and very
capable computer equipment and monitor or monitors
to research drugs, drug interactions, supplements,
studies, protocols, diets, personal habits (sleep, bedding,
home environments, work habits, posture) and reply
soon after a post. Or, you have built over the years your
own referral library to access.

It’s clear 20 years later you have dedicated so much of
your time to ALS from losing your husband to ALS.
Again, you have been so helpful to the Forum.

I say this jokingly, many times you use a lot of
acronyms I have to look up (there are so many).

Maybe the forum could have a sub-forum of most
of the acronyms related here.

PS. Thanks Nikki, I forgot. Ooops!
