Good Evening -

I know many of you are skilled at reading EMG results and was hoping you all might be able to look at my EMG results table and give me your thoughts. Waiting on a follow up visit with my neurologist at the end of the month. Thank you in advance!

Your EMG is perfect. You don't have ALS.

Your NCS suggests that you might want to take more frequent breaks while using your R arm, take a look at your texting/keyboarding/gaming position, and reconsider your seated posture/lying/slouching on your R side. I am sure the neuro will have more to say on that.

The good news -- you don't belong here.

Thank you for your quick reply. I was wondering if I should be concerned with "The right superficial peroneal SNAP response is absent, The right sural response is latent. The right ulnar CMAP amplitude drops in the forearm"? I am by no means an expert but when I read this, I thought that it mirrored drop foot and CMAP amplitudes being irregular could be a signal for ALS?

Thanks again.

That's from the NCS portion of your test and indicates any issues in the peripheral nervous system. ALS is a central nervous system disorder and that would cause particular patterns in the EMG portion of the test (which in yours is clear). If you have further questions, you really should be speaking with your doctor, as they would be directing any care and treatment to manage your pinched nerve. As Laurie says, speak with the neuro about next steps.

Take care

It has been explored as a prognostic marker in people who HAVE ALS These people have emgs and exams that are diagnostic It is not a diagnostic marker
