Hi Linda. My wife and I were on vacation back in 1986 and she laid on a chaise lounge at a resort and couldn't get up half an hour later due to pain in the back. On arrival home and seeing a specialist at the hospital on the way home from the airport it was found that she had 2 ruptured , protruding discs affecting the nerves. The doctor said a simple task such as bending over to tie shoes could let a weak disc bulge out and cause problems. A second opinion by noted author and back specialist Hamilton Hall confirmed the same story and diagnosed. Most people think of ruptured or slipped discs as they are mistakenly called are from some trauma but it is posible it was caused by something simple. Some of your symptoms could be left over from that. Hang in there. They'll get to the bottom of it sooner or later. AL.

Hi Al,

Thanks for your words of encouragment. I've read several of the other posts and all your comments and you really are a godsend! An angel in disguise, one of the earth angels.

I do keep hoping for the best, and as I said, I have no new EMG results, but I'm sure I'll be having those next again. As they say, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing! I'm trying not to suffer from medical schoolitis, but at the same time, this has been going on for years and I'm tired of not having a diagnosis. I also find, for myself anyhow, when I think the worst and get more educated on it, that at least I can ask intelligent questions to my neurologist. I'm also more prepared if they do lower the boom on me and give me the bad news, if you know what I mean!

It's beautiful here on the eastern shore of Maryland, so I think I'm going to go to one of the quaint towns here and do some Christmas shopping! Have a wonderful and blessed day!
