The big thing they are looking for is denervation. What shows on an EMG when there is denervation going on?
 
Here's a good site and what I found to answer your question Lou. As you will see from reading this site, denervation does not point only to als, there are several conditions that show denervation.


Needle EMG findings suggestive of denervation include:

1. fibrillations,
2. positive sharp waves, and
3. giant motor unit potentials (MUP).
