Last week, on The Resident, a patient had an EMG. They acted like it caused excruciating pain. Even the way they performed it was ridiculous.

I've had a dozen EMGs. Some were part of a training process for residents. If you get an EMG and are relaxed, the pain is minimal. Actually, the nerve conduction study bothered me more than the EMG. I've experienced more pain getting my teeth cleaned than any of the EMGs.

Please don't believe what you see on TV. Half the time medical shows don't even us proper procedures. Remember, TV is full of drama.

TV is made to be dramatic, so the relevance to medical fact is pretty rare.
Crash cart! Bing Bam Boom. Discharge they are good now ... um nope

I’ve only had two. Second was last week. I agree with Kim in that the nerve conduction studies were worse, but pain was low enough and tolerable. Yes TV and movies are fictional dramas and even with an adequate medical advisor they may still use “dramatic” license . R3ality is not a requirement.
