Hello everyone I know all your time is precious and I do not intent to waste your time. I have read the stickies, and read other post pertaining to the issue.
My question is that if you have atrophy between your thumb and forefinger would this show before any clinical weakness?
Secondly if it was true atrophy from ALS would it show on a EMG?
I'm a 19 year old male, who has sporadic muscle twitches, which I know mean nothing. But I am scared that there is a large indentation between my left thim and forefinger and I am concerned it is atrophy!
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions everyone. Have a great night!

We cant diagnose you. Your first step should be a doctor and that should not be doctor Google. I am curious why your family doesn't think you need one and how you ended up here. If you truly read the stickies then you would know that your first step is a doctor not this forum.

if you honestly feel like something is wrong... talk to your parents and see a doc. It is safe to say you do not have ALS.

I'm sorry for this as well, I looked up twitching and this came up ALS, and then I saw it means nothing without clinical weakness. Which I believe I don't have, and then I see that atrophy and twitching can be sinister and I believe I have atrophy between my thumb and forefinger. That's how I got here. I cannot go to a doctor because we have 5 days for thanksgiving break and my family cannot afford to get me where I'm studying to where we currently reside.

Franco, you don't have ALS. Looking up symptoms on the internet is very dangerous. Twitching can be from a lot of issues. We cant tell you what is wrong with you but I can guess as well as Dr. Google. Anxiety. I was under a great deal of stress after my husband was diagnosed by a ALS specialist not Dr. Google. Guess what? I was twitching along with other medical issues.

19 years old is the first reason to guess its anything but ALS. I can also say that nothing will change over the next two weeks so please hold out until you can see a doctor. If you only knew how rough our lives are and what kind of nightmare we are living than maybe you would not want to be here asking questions and expecting answers from patients who are fighting a fatal disease. Please do yourself a favor and everyone here a favor and stay off this forum until you have seen a doctor.

GO SEE A DOCTOR.

You are not describing ALS at all, but you should seek medical advice.

You have not seen a doctor - you are not qualified to diagnosed atrophy.

Twitching means NOTHING.

Go see a doctor - please we are dealing with a terminal disease in our lives, for real, diagnosed by a doctor. Go see a doctor.

This just happened today my friend said he could feel twitches in my arm that I couldn't feel or see. Are these benign too or worrisome???

Franco, we have told you what we think. WE ARE NOT DOCTORS! We do not want or care to tell anyone., they have ALS. We know this disease and live it everyday. That is what we have to do and trust me its so very hard.

I have a suggestion for you. Share these posts with your parents or family. Ask to see a doctor. We will not change our stance. You are not describing ALS. For goodness sakes! Anyone at anytime can have twitches but having ALS at 19 is unheard of. Please go away. You do not need to be here. I mean this in a good way.

I understand and will try to see a doctor, I was just curious if atrophy could come before weakness in this disease.

Hello, I'm sorry to post back here, but I've been trying to self test babinski, and one foot goes down and the other does nothing is this worrisome? And can ALS start in a right foot and a left hand at the same time??

No. You can not self test. It's impossible. Please go see a doctor.

Please read all the posts already made on this thread. Especially the ones that tell you to go see a doctor repeatedly. And then explain to the people here why you are not taking their recommendations to see a doctor and are persisting in asking terminally ill people and their care givers for advice, and then not taking it.
