I noticed a new device (MyNotifi) that was just launched. It's a combination fall detector/tap-or-speak-to-get-help wristband that works with iOS and Android phones. It seems to have addressed some of the phone-related issues that other emergency systems have, like allowing a minute for wave-offs, a low battery warning, an out of range warning, etc. where the no-response default is to start calling the phone tree. Not cheap, but...
