Let's talk about Effective Dates so we all understand it. I always need to be reminded how it works.
( An Effective Date is a Blind Date where you get lucky.) .
At the VA, the Effective Date--from which your compensation begins--is figured through a bunch of rules. For ALS folks, two rules are:
1. For most of us, the Effective Date is the later of the diagnosis or the date you made the claim.
2. For people who discharged less than a year ago, if you put in a claim within a year of discharge, VA should consider the effective date all the way back to discharge.
It gets more complicated if there is an appeal being processed.
