Dull ache in my right shoulder

Hi everyone, Just picked up my emg results (posted below). Everything looks clean to me (although I am not a doctor), which is a great sign as you all have said. Would some of you please take a look and let me know what you think. My main concern is the possibility of bulbar onset, as my symptoms are mainly in my tongue, under my chin, and throat (aside from the full body twitching). If any of you feel my emg rules that out please let me know your thoughts on that. Conversely if there are more tests or specialists I should be pursuing, any info on that is greatly appreciated. I more thank you for all the help thus far and thanks in advance for anymore info you guys have. 1C8E317F-D509-409A-BFF3-59708A3C0F3D.jpeg 61CEEAF4-38DA-4642-8BAE-43CB7263F311.jpeg 294CA4C4-37E9-457D-AB43-B559A2CAEAFB.jpeg 5ACEB47B-9A78-4787-B61D-B8F0B987FF0B.jpeg

Your EMG is as clean and normal as they come. That means you’re clear of ALS. Congratulations!

And even if a person were to have bulbar onset, a completely normal EMG in the limbs would still rule out ALS.

Specifically they tested your sternocleidomastoid which is for bulbar ( there are three acceptables testing areas and it is one)

Ok

Sorry I started to type and it only posted the word OK. What I meant to say everyone was Thank you so much for responding Karen and Nikki! Your opinions means quite a lot to me. I feel so much more relieved in light of your reading my emg. Question Nikki, do you feel testing the sternocleidomastoid for bulbar is fully sufficient, or should I have the tongue and other area tested at some point? Obviously I know thats up to me but I would like to hear your thoughts on it. Again thank you all for you ongoing help and support. It’s meant so much to me.

No I said it was one of the three acceptable you only need one. And you do not want a tongue emg

Thanks Nikki I’m sure a tongue emg is not pleasant, however I’m still trying to make sense of these oral symptoms. My tongue feels so odd/weak, and as mentioned, If I push it out then relax it, it will twitch a bit all over. In light of the clean EMG and the helpful words from everyone here I’ve gotten better at staying calm. Not sure what more I can do. Of coarse if anyone has some input/advice Id really appreciate to hear from you. Thanks.

Keep calm and carry on.

Enjoy your life!

I'm not sure what else you can do here either as none of your symptoms, plus clean EMGs, plus clean clinical exams all say no ALS. Why not rejoice instead of fixating on a disease you do not have? That will only leave you spinning your wheels unnecessary. Congrats on the no ALS. You no longer need to be here or post further questions and that is fantastic news.

Thank you for the kind words Karen and Bestfriends14. I am really working on putting these fears away and I am getting much better with it. Bestfriends14, I have read your postings and they have helped me quite a bit, thank you for being so direct and to the point. Do you or anyone feel as though my bulbar concerns are unwarranted, can I put them to rest? ( This seems to be the last spinning wheel left) and will be my last question here. You all have been so helpful and I will continue to live my life and as Karen said keep calm.

Matt

We have all told you we don’t think you have ALS. Your emg as I told you twice specifically looked for bulbar. I am sorry you don’t believe us but there is nothing more to be said.

Work with your doctors about your concerns

Good luck

Matt, I see you are still online with the Forum.

Help yourself.... log off the Forum. As you have been told repeatedly
you do not have ALS. Let it go...

Enjoy a good life... move on.

Hi everyone, again thank you for all the great reply’s, and the words of wisdom. I had signed off yesterday as Clearwater recommended ,and still fully plan to move forward with my life. Quick Story, This morning I was looking over my bloodwork and found that my estrogen levels are incredibly high, 642 total estrogen on a range from 19-69 (not sure how my doc missed it). Anyway this may explain at least my heightened anxiety and weight/muscle loss. I understand this is not ALS related, however Karen would you please advise on this? I do not have an endocrinologist currently (will make an appointment on Monday). I have an appointment with my PCP Thursday but I wanna know what an endocrinologist would do in this situation. (I will post the bloodwork below). Again everyone thank you for all your time and caring words of advice.

You’re right that the estrogens are not ALS-related. Why were they checked? Assuming you’re a male, not taking estrogen for any reason, that is something that should be addressed with an endocrinologist. They’ll also want levels on other sex hormones: testosterone, FSH, LH, prolactin.

Thank you Karen, my PCP included these tests when he had my testosterone levels checked. He thought my test might be low because of my mood changes ( my test levels are within range). I am also a vegetarian so he wanted to see if my diet might be affecting my hormones I think. Thanks for taking a look and weighing in Karen. Very much appreciated.
