Hi al - thank you for taking time to read my note.

For about a year I’ve had some trouble swallowing and pronouncing certain sounds - esp s and t and ‘tion’ I have a one year old and chalked it up to lack of sleep.

About six weeks ago I noticed my left lower lip is dropping when I make certain expressions. For instance, if I say ‘brushing’ - my lip droops on the ‘shing’ I have some atrophy in my left calf, but I am also right dominante.

My first neuro thinks the droopy lip is stress. My pcp thinks mild Bell’s palsy (but every other doc thinks it’s def NOT Bell’s palsy as no other facial muscles are involved.

I’m worried it may be als. I have another neuro appt on sept 20th. I’ve not had emg. I do have clear mri and eeg.

Droopy lip is not part of ALS. I hope they can sort it out quickly with you. All the best.

Lack of sleep is a common reason for real and perceived speech difficulty. Stress and Bell's palsy are certainly other possibilities. We won't see anything suggesting ALS in this. The EMG will reveal more; meanwhile, enjoy your child.

Best,
Laurie
