As you have seen here by now my mom is being told she more than likely has ALS.
Her sister died of it a few years ago. She was the only one in the family we knew of.
She was the youngest of ten my mom being the firstborn.

I have had problems for some time now with spasms in legs, feet and hands.

Lately it turned to movements that look dystonic or cramping of feet and hands.

It has progressed now to sides and to my midriff and abdomen area. I take Baclofen to help.

I just wondered if it goes there?

I have problems in the last few months walking and keeping balance but it does not feel like true weakness. Alot of bigtime spasms unlike moms fasiculations.

Have you ever heard of two having ALS at the same time, mother and daughter or such?

Hi Kewanee, I am sorry your family has to go through this again! Familial ALS is very rare, even rarer than the regular kind, but there are a couple of members here with it. Maybe if you search the threads you can find more information. Have you been teested for the gene? Regards, Cindy

Thankyou Cindy,
I'll go and see what I can find on that. No gene testing ever done as yet.

Sorry for the bad news Kewanee but I do know of a father and daughter with ALS at the same time. There were other siblings at the same time as well. It might be a good idea to see a good ALS Specialist.

Well I'm going to do what I can. I'm going to a Neuro. who is a movement disorder specialist tues in Mass. A long way from me but she has credentials.

Also have an appt. lined up with MDA clinic in case I need that.

I'm so hoping I don't have it but the more I watch my mom I know she does.

I'm getting spasms all over the place. Torso, legs, shoulders and arms, eyelid. Boy I need to know what this is.

Thank you for your post.
