I’m glad it came in time for your husband.

A trick for him getting into a regular seat if not using a wheelchair— have him put his butt on the seat first and then bring legs in (using hands to lift legs if needed). If legs are weak and he tries to lead with his legs (the way most of us get into a car), it doesn’t work.
 
When doing butt/legs in order for getting in and out, as Karen mentioned can help, a swivel cushion can be used-- like a lazy Susan. Google swivel seat cushion -- they are available on Amazon.

Also a handle to grab on to that goes through the striker on the door frame -- called auto assist grab bar, also available on azn.
