Diet and tracheostomy secretions

Good afternoon. Does anybody with a trach and a feeding tube have any advice regarding diet to lessen mucus or secretions , so cough assist is not having to be done as frequently? Maybe diet doesnt play a role but I wanted to reach out in case it did. Thank you very much.

Hi Linc,

If you are presently going with the standard Jevity, or similar non-food type of formula, I would definitely recommend looking into real food like Liquid Hope, Kate Farms, or similar. But I'm not sure diet is a big factor with suctioning. My wife was on a vent for over three years and on a Liquid Hope tube feed diet pretty much that whole time. She remained mostly very regular and didn't have gastro issues. We did a heck of a lot of suctioning. It ebbed and flowed based on other issues we encountered, but I don't imagine her food was a factor. All the best on this journey...Jon
