Hi all
Thankyou for letting me join i have a few questions not 100 % they should all be in this section firstly i had an elder brother who passed away from als /mnd last year his started from foot drop fascillations etc and took a while to diagnose after several falls etc a bit of family history my mother pssed away at 80 with alzheimers and my father passed away at 88 he had parkinsons he was in a care home but had an issue just before he died and the dr said it could be fronto temporal dementia .
So this seems as to where als /mnd could come from we dont know about grand parents as his father died of heart attack very young the grandmother lived until 70 on mums side the grandfather died of stroke at 71 and grandmother young of cancer .
Now i took it up with my GP about concerns i could get als /mnd he seemed uniterested and said no syptoms it would be millions to 1 etc and that was it while it is unusual i have started to get a few muscle fascillations but they are sporadis sometimes in underarm sometimes in a leg but they seem to dissappear could also be due to stress anxiety however i do also have at oddtimes a feeling of trembliness in an arm and leg both on same side just on some occaisions and this also comes and goes i do a bit of walking and have a physical job drywall although have not been doing much due to covid as the hospitals etc here in uk are not in good shape at the moment im a bit reluctant to see a DR also wether i am over worrying on this as i am not having any balance/ pain /physical issues and witht everything going on it could be a lot of anxiety issues im just a bit concerned as having studied a lot of literature on als /mnd there could be possibility of familial link
I was wondering if it would be worth getting an EMG test at a private hospital if this would help put the mind at rest (one way or another ) or if it would be too early for that as there doesnt seem to be many specific tests also it could be a number of other issues ...i think a lot of NHS diagnostic departments/staff have been redeployed to covid emergency in uk .....thanks for any info ..mike
