Our PALS had a difficult day today, having to use the cough assist machine frequently. This provided some, but not satisfactory relief. I wondered if the cough assist machine has a “prescription”, like the Bipap? Can it be adjusted if it doesn’t quite clear the cough? Can the respiratory people change any settings?

You can change the settings, just as you can for BiPAP. You don't need to wait for someone to show up. Since you want to try going higher on the settings, it is best to go up little by little, and to start with the "exhale" and "pause" setting until you figure out if/how much the pressure settings need to change -- that's the air that he is working with to cough back out. I have attached an old guide that should show the basics but let me know if you need help.

Best,
Laurie
