Firstly, thank you to all of you for reading my post. I, like many other people on this forum, have finally gotten to a point where I feel it necessary to ask the wealth of people living with this disease for some guidance. My heart goes out to every one of you, and I appreciate greatly your patience and time.

I am a 28 year old female. I have been exhibiting some peculiar symptoms for the past two months. Beginning with what felt like tingling in my right arm and leg. I seem to have lost some mobility in my right toes, and my right fingers are quite stiff. The right side of my face also went through some tingling for a few days. On from those initial issues, I now feel that my arm and leg are quite heavy. During the course of these symptoms I have had CT and MRI done with no issues, save for a thickened sinus?

My throat has had a nasty drip for over a month now, which, upon my third visit to the GP, was finally given a swab, and am now on antibiotics for what the doctor has said, "appears to be strep" although I have no pain or fever.

My right shoulder went through an intermittent twitching fit last week that was visible as well as felt. It lasted about 12 hours and only twitched for about 30 seconds at a time. It now feels heavy, although all "tests" of strength seem so prove that its still functioning well. I have also been extremely lethargic and fatigued all summer.

I have little twitches that I notice while at rest on the right side of my body, and my fingers remain stiff. Looking back I now remember noticing my inability to let my wrist go "limp" while working out with 3lb free weights months ago.

All of these compounded phenomena have me quite concerned. I have a neuro appointment in 5 weeks, that my GP has told me I was "lucky to even get at all"... which in my opinion, leads him to think I'm completely insane and don't need any sort of follow up. The anticipation is daunting... I find enjoying myself at all very difficult and my relationships are suffering because of my inability to shake the though of being very ill.

I thank you for all your time, and hope maybe someone could have some insight to these issues.

I neglected to mention that I also had a blood panel done which came back clear, with the exception of my iron being "a little low, but nothing to be concerned about".

ALS and other MND's start in one place, not all over the body, so I wouldn't worry about that. The amount of things you describe as "feeling" also points away from ALS/MND.

I don't think you're insane, and I'm glad you're going to try and get some piece of mind. Stay of the net!

Thanks Beky, I appreciate your reply. I'm doing my best to stay away from Dr. Google ;)

Slow down!

I suspect your GP made the "lucky" comment because the wait for the neuro is only five weeks and not the Ontario standard wait time of two to three months. Not because he thinks you're insane - if he thought that, he'd be sending you for a psych. consult. On the other hand, if your GP suspected an immediate and grave neurological concern, you would be seen by a specialist in a week's time.

In my opinion, you (mis) read too much in your GP's comment and you are reading too much in your symptoms - as evidenced that you jumped to an ALS web site. You could have any one of a myriad of fixable conditions - or nothing at all.

Please, get a grip. Your relationships ought not to be suffering over this. The cart need not go before the horse. Stop thinking you have a fatal illness for Pete's sake.

Come back after the neuro consult - and let us know.

Thank you for your reply, Elaine.

Hi, your symptoms really are not consistent with ALS. ALS starts with weakness that gradually gets worse and then atrophy sets in. Then comes the twitches. No burning or tingling sensations as you have described.
Hope your neuro gets to the bottom of your symptoms quickly. I'm sure it will be a simple fix. Good luck

Txgirl, thank you for your reply. I feel somewhat guilty monopolizing all of your time with my own somewhat unfounded fears. My best wishes and love to you all.

Mindzaii,

You are in the land of unfounded fears. Take some time to read a couple of the threads on this board, and you'll see. Also, trust your doctor's judgement. Some people have trust issues that prevent them from accepting good news.

As for some advice I can give you, write down all of your symptoms to tell your neuro. Also, don't be obsessed about ALS in the doctor's office. You'll be labeled and (mis)treated accordingly.
