Hello all I’m a 36 year old man who is a new father to a three month old boy. Approximately three weeks I started noticing that my arms were becoming fatigued after holding my son for a short period of time, after five minutes my arms would be tired and weak. In the last week and a half I have been having muscle twitching in both of my arms, legs, shoulders and back as well. My biggest fear is not being here for my wife and son. Is this cause for concern in terms of ALS and should I see my PCP? Thank you in advance for your replies.

It's always good to check in with your PCP when things change dramatically in a hurry, but I don't see ALS in this. For one thing, its onset is not as widespread as you describe. The PCP can baseline your strength and ask about other aspects of your health.

Most often, diet, exercise, sleep and/or an undiagnosed virus can factor in.

Congratulations on your son!

Best,
Laurie

Thank you very much Laurie! I’ll be sure to try and get something scheduled tomorrow.
