Recently, my husband was hospitalized as a possible stroke victim due to slurred speech. He had an MRI and CT scan. Al came back clear. His mother died of ALS which he shared with the doctors. He was discharged and followed up with the GP and neurologist which said he was fine. He shared the symptom of slurred speech has continued along with jaw muscle fatigue when eating. We are scared this could be ALS and have scheduled another appointment with a neurologist specializing in ALS. Would be interested in your thoughts.

It wouldn't be appropriate for us to guess, however with his mother having ALS, you are doing the right thing in scheduling an appointment for follow up. Make sure it is a neuromuscular specialist.

Hoping and praying that it is not ALS.

So hope it is not, and waiting for the neuro appt is always so hard. But that's the best next step. Did your husband's mother have any genetic testing? Will his GP order any testing to get other things ruled out (or in--would be great if it isn't ALS!), such as heavy metals, myasthenia gravis, etc., while you're waiting for ALS specialist?

Wishing you and your husband the best. Please keep us posted.
