Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and respond, I truly appreciate it. My mother in her mid 60’s began to notice slurring of her words in June. She speaks on the phone for her job and would notice as the day wore on her words would start to slur. My sister noticed this as well when talking with my mother at night and assumed at times that my mother had had an alcoholic beverage. Around this time my mother also noticed increased saliva production. This was thought to possibly be due to a sinus infection or recent dental work but has not improved. She continues to have slurring of her words and increased saliva production. Her slurring however is improved/sometimes undetectable in the morning and when she is rested and worsens when she is fatigued. She has no other symptoms. She has seen her physician twice for this and my sister and I suggested she have an MRI as her brother has MS. I have also asked that she see a neurologist to help get a diagnosis. I would just like to know from people who have ALS if the increased salivation along with the slurring (that improves with rest) sounds like symptoms of ALS. Thank you so much. I am a concerned daughter who just wants to make sure that my mom is getting the care she needs.
