The scientific community has spent so much time and money to finding a cure
for ALS.

There is a major problem with the approach. Every ALS patient is dying or
has died.

An effort should be made in parallel to current research. This effort should
be aiming at making current ALS patients live better and longer lives. This
effort should aim at making the following technologies available to
patients:

Exoskeleton

CYBERDYNE

Voice communications

ambient :: technology

Artificial Nerves

FEScenter.org Cleveland FES Center Restores Movement To Individuals With Neuromuscular Disabilities Using MathWorks Tools

BCI

FEScenter.org Computerworld Magazine: Dawn M. Taylor on brain-computer interfaces

Diaphragm stimulation for breathing

FEScenter.org DiMarco, Anthony F., M.D.

Artificial Muscles/Diaphragm

Artificial muscles restore ability to blink, save eyesight

So much technology that can help patients now, but researchers want a cure.
A cure would be nice, but we don't seem to be near one yet. How about some
cyborg technology for those in need right now?

Thanks,
Mario

Some of this is not related to ALS but some may find it interesting.
