Thank you all for your time.

I'm a 28 year old male.

For about 5 months now, I have been experiencing symptoms. It started out with a random weak/sore leg. Since that time, i have developed body wide soreness/stiffness. If I stand or sit for any moderate length of time, my legs become very sore and stiff. Kind of like the feeling you get when you have had a good workout. Which of course, I have not. Also, some numbness/tingling throughout.

As of today, I still have the legs issues, as well as ample neck/shoulder soreness. I wake up in the morning feeling like I've just ran marathon. When shaving, talking on the phone etc, I can feel my arm, in the bicep area, have a burning/weak sensation. Happens in both arms, but more evident in my right arm. I am right happened, and my forearm/wrist area becomes very tired when typing along with my bicep.

I also have noticed a small change in my speech. I find myself borderline slurring at times and occasionally having trouble forming words. Along with that, some people have asked me if I have a cold, due to the sound of my voice. (This has happened most recently). I due have constant dry mouth, which I know is in part from the sleeping medication I am on.

As fast as testing goes, I have seen a couple of neuro's and have had 2 EMG's. One of my right leg, and the other neuro performed one on my left arm and leg. Also, 2 typical clinical exams.

Both results, from their words, have came back normal. 2nd neuro found some never issues, which she called very common, that causes my numbess/tingling in my hands. They both have said that I seem fine, neurologically speaking.

My question is, with my right arm having more of the symptoms, and the people asking if I have a cold, should go back to the nuero and and tell him these findings? Request another EMG of right arm and/or bulbar area?

Would the EMG have picked up abnormalities in the area tested even If I just now showing symptoms in the right arm and bulbar area?

Am i right to believe that I should put possible ALS behind me?

Thank you all for any input. I can't imagine having to deal with questions like mine on a daily basis.

Best regards,
-Mitcell

An EMG will show findings far in advance of symptoms, my EMG showed results even in areas where I have no problems. If your clinical exam is clear and your EMG is clean you need to work with your doctors to find the cause of your symptoms.
Good luck
I hope it is something easily treatable for you.

Read the sticky titled READ BEFORE POSTING.

You do not describe ALS symptoms.

Hi, I imagine that you must be worried about the possibility that your symptoms might be a result of ALS. Although muscle fatigue and a sense of slurring of speech could be early signs of ALS, there are a very large number of other medical conditions that could mimic such symptoms. If I were in your position, I would go to an ALS Center that could perform a comprehensive evaluation including an EMG as well as nerve conduction studies (NCS) to look for early evidence of ALS. More importantly they will perform a comprehensive evaluation looking for other diseases that could produce your symptoms since it is often very difficult to make a certain diagnosis of ALS early in its presentation. Finally, you will find a specialist at an ALS center with lots of experience in diagnosing ALS who will be unlikely to miss a diagnosis of ALS if you give them the time needed to follow you and to rule other diseases. Furthermore, an ALS expert will be sensitive to the differential diagnosis of your symptoms and will be skilled in identifying other diseases mimicking ALS symptoms. Some of your symptoms are atypical for ALS, so there's a good chance that something else is producing her symptoms, nevertheless, if I were in your position I would feel more secure with an evaluation and ALS Center.

ALS is not random. Once a muscle is weakened because of ALS, it cannot get better.

Also, ALS itself does not hurt.

Since that time, i have developed body wide soreness/stiffness.

The beginning of ALS is not body wide. It starts in one place, like a hand or a foot.

If I stand or sit for any moderate length of time, my legs become very sore and stiff. Kind of like the feeling you get when you have had a good workout. Which of course, I have not.

Again, ALS doesn't get better.

some numbness/tingling throughout.

Numbness and tingling are not ALS.

As of today, I still have the legs issues, as well as ample neck/shoulder soreness. I wake up in the morning feeling like I've just ran marathon. Sounds to me like your body is trying to kill you in your sleep. But it is not ALS.

I also have noticed a small change in my speech. I find myself borderline slurring at times and occasionally having trouble forming words. Along with that, some people have asked me if I have a cold, due to the sound of my voice. (This has happened most recently). Yep. Probably the meds.

EMGs are pretty good at finding ALS long before you have any symptoms of it.

Both results, from their words, have came back normal. 2nd neuro found some never issues, which she called very common, that causes my numbess/tingling in my hands. They both have said that I seem fine, neurologically speaking.

Two neurologists have seen you, touched you, tested you, and they put their license on the line when they cleared you. Yet you come asking strangers on the Internet to second guess the doctors? Please don't.

Remember that a neurologist knows nerves, but doesn't specialize in the rest of the body's systems. See your medical GP doctor. A board-certified GP is trained and experienced at taking a health investigation in whatever direction it needs to go, whether it's neuro or something else.

Am i right to believe that I should put possible ALS behind me?
Yep.

Thank you all for any input. I can't imagine having to deal with questions like mine on a daily basis.

I can.

Good luck. See your GP medical doctor, but stop worrying about ALS.
