Charlie Watts, the drummer for the Rolling Stones has passed.

Charlie Watts was one of the original Rolling Stones for nearly
50 years. He was 80 years old. Charlie was the solid base of
the Rolling Stones throughout all their escapades over the years.
He married his wife, Shirley Ann, in 1964, married 57 years.

Charlie’s true heart in drumming was Jazz, one of the best.
But, Rock n Roll was where he made his millions. He once
got in an argument with Mick Jagger who was drunk in a
hotel room and grabbed Jagger by the shirt and told him…
“This is my band and don’t you ever forget it !” It stayed that
way even though Jagger was the front man.

Charlie was an impeccable dresser off stage, once given the “Best
Dressed Man” award. He was not a flamboyant drummer, attracting
attention to himself. He worked his trap set (drum set) pretty much
sitting straight up with just a smile on his face. My opinion, he kept
cymbal crashing to a minimum unlike others.

He made just about every Stones tune easy to drum to. My favorites
are (were now) “Beast of Burden”, “Miss You.’ and “Brown Sugar.”

We’ve lost another great.
